Description

This Orange Cake is a delightful treat, blending fresh orange zest and juice with butter and sugar for a moist, flavorful dessert. Perfect for gatherings or as a sweet ending to any meal!


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • Zest from 1 navel orange
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a 9" cake pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar and orange zest, rubbing them together until fragrant. Then, add softened butter and mix until fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Next, incorporate eggs, milk, orange juice, applesauce, and vanilla into the mixture, and blend until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just blended. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan before inverting it onto a wire rack.
  6. For the glaze, whisk together orange juice and vanilla. Gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth.
  7. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake and spread it evenly. Allow it to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Make sure to let the cake cool completely before adding the glaze to prevent it from melting.
You can add chopped nuts for added texture if desired.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
