Description
Dr. Pepper Ham is a delightful dish that combines a spiral sliced ham with a sweet glaze of brown sugar and Dr. Pepper, making it perfect for gatherings. Its easy preparation and rich flavor will impress every guest.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (7 to 10 pound) ham bone-in, spiral sliced
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar packed
- 1/2 cup dr. pepper
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
Instructions
- Remove the ham from its packaging and place it in an oven bag, securing it tightly. Place the ham cut-side down in a 9×13-inch baking dish and let it rest at room temperature for 90 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and arrange an oven rack in the lower-middle position. Bake the ham until it reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees, approximately 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours, or about 15 minutes per pound. Open the bag slightly to check the temperature without puncturing it.
- In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, Dr. Pepper, orange juice, and dijon mustard. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it reduces to a syrupy consistency, about 8 minutes.
- After baking, carefully open the oven bag to expose the ham. Brush half of the glaze over the ham and return it to the oven for an additional 10 minutes until the glaze becomes sticky.
- Remove the ham from the oven, discard the bag, and brush with the remaining glaze. Cover loosely with foil and let it rest for 30 to 40 minutes.
Notes
For best results, use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham is cooked properly.
Allowing the ham to sit out at room temperature before baking helps it cook evenly.
The glaze can be adjusted by adding additional spices or adjusting the sweetness to taste.
