These Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats are a delightful twist on a classic treat. With a rich, nutty flavor from the browned butter and pockets of gooey marshmallows, they are simple to make and irresistible for any occasion.

- 12 tablespoons (170 g) unsalted butter
- 20 oz. mini marshmallows (2) 10 oz. bags
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 9 cups (240 g) rice krispie cereal
Instructions
- Grease and line a 9 x 13 pan with wax paper or foil along the bottom and two sides of the pan.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat until it starts to foam. Stir frequently until the butter smells nutty and has brown bits at the bottom.
- Add the marshmallows to the browned butter and stir continuously on low heat until mostly melted. Remove from heat.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and salt. Add the rice krispie cereal, pour in the melted marshmallows, and stir until combined. Add 2 cups of reserved mini marshmallows.
- Scoop the mixture into the prepared pan and gently press down. Let it set for 30-60 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Make sure to stir the butter constantly to avoid burning.
Allowing the treats to set is crucial for the best texture.
You can add other mix-ins like chocolate chips or sprinkles if desired.
